English Speaker's Mistake Four

Numb Toes

This is from a hospital report:
"She is numb from her toes down."
Explanation: The word "numb" means "to have no feeling". So, this patient has no feeling in her toes. That part is clear, but "from the toes down" means not only her toes, but also every part of her body below her toes. What part of the human body is below the toes??? Of course, every part of the human body is ABOVE the toes. I have no idea what this doctor meant! (^_^)
